january-15-meeting-mural-015On a cold, cold day in January the mural crowd had a great turnout of NAHS artists.  Everyone noticed what a difference viewing the mural-in-progress at Jackie & Chris’ Yellow House Studio as an entirely new experience from the beginnings at Camp Burgess.  Jackie & Chris both worked on the mural to get some indications of items to be painted in and added some new ideas.  Thank you to Nicolette, Brad, Greg, Sheila, Delaney, Maddie, Niki, Spencer, Mr. Rigazio, and Jackie for their focus that day.  We’ll meet next Thursday.  Planned installation of the canvas should occur in February with completion of wall and unveiling in March or early April.  This is great stuff!

It's in the trunk.

It's in the trunk.

Jackie & I rolled up the canvas, rounded up the paints and packed in the details and all is now at the Yellow House Studio.  This project is so fortunate to have an artist who obviously loves to do her job and goes above and beyond.  Our next meeting will be at the studio in Merchant Square this Thursday 2:30 pm.  Be prepared to get down to brass paints.  I am preparing a speech write now to renew our initiative….Spring is coming and so is this mural.  Please be ready to work.  I am also looking for someone who can design a “Look what’s coming!” sign for the stairway.  Simple, yet elegant and enticing. So, I promise to bring some superlicious brownies and the tradional apples for you.  See ya’all Thursday.

Hmmmm….what happened here?

P1010287Somehow our painterly thinking and doing molecules were scattered to the four corners of a very large room that day (1/8).  Spencer, Niki, Nicolette, Sheila, Delaney, Jackie R., Mr. Rigazio and Mrs. Johnson – all seemed just a little shocked to be returning to the project.  Nevertheless, some things did get done:  Spencer paint sketched the gecko-influenced tie; Sheila worked more color into the upper left hand marsh scence; Nicolette gave the typewriter a little more presence; Delaney balked at doing  the pathway but accomplished a second paint layer on  window and trim; Niki worked on some sketches for the desk top (Yes, she will rememeber her ‘fantasy animal’ drawing next time.); Jackie directed and sketched in table items, wall items, and played with taping out the floor run; Mr. Rigazio painted a great waste basket which Niki enhanced a bit; and Mrs. Johnson pretty much watched.  Yup, energies were scattered.  But the mural will be done in the next couple of months and progress is amazing.  We’ve got to get centered into the project when the work needs to get done.  Sorry about the pep talk.  We’ll be meeting next Thursday as usual, perhaps at the studio…we’ll see.  The room is no longer available after 2/5.  Thanks to all who came and did.  See you next time.

The stuff of muralists.

The great white wall is the original inspiration for the Mural Project.  mural-project-2008-library-0023mural-project-2008-library-0094A blank canvas is a blank canvas.  Here are some shots of what the NAHS students, Jackie Reeves and Brett Rigazio are working to refine.

Diehard artists....Thanks!

Diehard artists....Thanks!

Our last painting slam  of 2008.  Missing from this picture is Sheila and the photographer.  The canvas was fine-tuned and everyone had a hand in the painting that day.  Jackie is an awesome painting mentor!  I love seeing the progress made so far.  Now that the new year is here, it’s onto to seeing the project completed gradually and up on the stairwell at the Library.  You guys are going to love this!  We’ll see you all in January just  little later.  Painters up!
